Current exhibition of Maya Gerr and Moscow puppet theater workshop at the Gallery on April 5 th
Our current Spring exhibition, featuring new paintings and graphics of Boston artist Maya Gerr will continue through April 16 th.
Born and educated in Moscow, Russia, Maya Gerr received her formal degree in art as well as applied arts: costume design, painting on silk and leather, along with design of tapestry, which she found particulary interesting because she felt it allowed for the use of extra volume and texture. Maya Gerr spent a few years in Heidelberg, Germany- a town of picturesque hills and ruins of medieval castles, which inspired artists and poets of German Romanticism and provided great influence on her work too! There she was naturally attracted to landscapes in both watercolor and oil paint. And finally, when artist moved to the United States, her paintings became more abstract with hidden animal and plant motifs.
