Opening Reception on August 5 for "The World Around You" Juried show at YAA Maine gallery

York, Maine- "The world around you" is the theme for York Art Association's summer show.
The show opens on Thursday, Aug 4 and runs through Sunday, August 28th. There will be an Opening reception on Friday, Aug 5, at 5-7 PM. Olesya and Jerry Koenig, owners of "FROM RUSSIA WITH ART" gallery in Boston with international roots, will serve as judges for this juried show. Prizes will be awarded.

In conjunction with the show, York Art Assocoation will offer a demo and presentation by art historian from Moscow Anna Zhuravskaya on Thursday , Aug 25 at 7 PM. She will demo the process of etching, including dry point and acid techniques. During her presentation, Anna will also hightlight the artwork of two international, featured artists whose work employs these particular etching techniques- Irina Makoveeva and Alexander Vetrov ("Visions from my Rucksack" by A. Vetrov illustrate this article).

Exhibition featuring impressionist painters Alex Korman and Vladimir Tabanin continues till August 14th

Till Sunday, August 14th, beginning and advanced art collectors and investors are encouraged to view the artwork of one of the best en plein air painters in New England, Member of Boston Center for the Arts, Alex Korman, and Honored Artist of Russia from St. Petersburg, Vladimir Tabanin.

Both artists had graduated form famous Academy of Fine Arts in St. Peterburg and combine their love for impressionism and strong training in realism, that creates a unique fusion, resulting in a romantic affair with en plein air painting. Vladimir Tabanin taught fine art in Paris and Havana, Cuba and has been a participant of more then 200 exhibitions in Russia and abroad.

Pairing works from varied artists simultaneously allows the viewer to make more intricate comparisons of style, technique, medium and texture, and you will be plesantly surprised by this collection of Russian Impressionist painters at FROM RUSSIA WITH Gallery.

New Exhibit on May 25- July 31 with Opening Reception on June 5: Retrospective of Russian School of Fine Art.

Our new exhibit will feature oil painters , from St.Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, Alexander Korman and Vladimir Tabanin, and famous etching artists, representing Moscow Surikov Fine Arts Institute and Moscow School of Graphics- Alexander Vetrov and Stanislav Nikireyev ( 1932-2007).

The Russian painting tradition is unique.In America, the Russian realist painters are often referred to as Impressionists. It is true that, the discoveries of French impressionists have influenced Russian painting in the late 19th century. However, while studying the effects of light on color through building color relationships, the Russians always adhered to highly accurate drawing.As a result, the Russian tradition combines the focus on color, but without destroying the form, as is often reffered to as a more painterly school.Detailes of painting are emphasized only to the extent as they contribute to the general composition.

Bostonian painter Alexander Kormans's love for Impressionism, combined with his rigorous training in Realism, created a unigue fusion, resulting in a romantic affair with en plein air painting. "For this show I am going to place 15 of my paintings from different periods of my artistic career.Although my artistic style may vary depending on en plein air situation, my goal has stayed unchanged through the years: to capture complex, momentary and coherent impressions of objects of art and surrounding nature".

"Honored Artist of Russia" Vladimir Tabanin lives in St.Petersburg. He is a wonderful colorist, which is most fully expressed in his still lives. He resorted mainly to "tsvetopisi", where every stroke of his powerful message carries its own colorful energy.Tabanin works in a variety of painting techniques, and is a participant in more then 200 exhibitions in Russia and abroad. FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery is very happy to present him for the first time in New England!

"Honored Artist of Russia", Alexander Vetrov is an outstanding colored etching artist and was with us from the 1 st Gallery day. His etchings are detailed pictures of native Russia, panoramas of difficult and beautiful compositions. He handles detailes in symphony with nature and the accuracy of what he sees. He uses color tactfully and in a competent, professional manner.

"People's Artist of Russia", Stanislav Nikireyev is one of the best etching artists to ever come from Russia. His black and white etchings capture all the seasons of nature and its creatures both from the past and from more current eras, producing many diverse and beautiful country scenes. They have incredible detail , and no color is necessary! A number of critics compare Nikireyev with Albrecht Duerer.

Stass Shpanin Exhibition: Age of Empires and Day of Russia in Boston May 1st

On May 1st, the gallery will open its doors to host Day of Russia in Boston a celebration that embraces not only Russian art, but culture as well. The purpose of this event is to encourage cultural exchanges and intersections between the distinct Russian and American communities that florish in Boston metropolitain area.

A central point of this celebration will be Stass Shpanin's Age of Empires. This exhibit will feature paintings on the Silver Age in Russia, complete with Stass' visual journalistic qualities, vivid colors, and bold strokes. His paintings help recreate time period in Russia that will never be fully revisited again. Stass himself is more then just a talented artist. In 2002 at the age of twelve, Stass was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest professional artist in the world. Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, USSR, in 1990, he has always been surrounded by discussions of international news, politics, history and science.

Stass Shpanin exhibit at the FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery is on view from April 16 through May 22nd, so make sure to see this established artist who gives light to the future of art and expression.

On May 1st, the Russian American Cultural Center of Boston (Director Margaret Coleman, www.raccboston.org) will sponsor a book sale of Russian books and English books about Russia.To add to the rich, cultural environment there will also be Russian snacks, chocolate, Russian samovar for tea, entertainment and live music. All the festivities will be held at the FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery at 1977, Mass. Avenue, Cambridge MA, near Popter Sq T station, on Sunday, May 1, from 12-3PM, followed by an Artist reception for Stass Shpanin from 3-7PM. Current exhibition of Maya Gerr and Moscow puppet theater workshop at the Gallery on April 5 th

Our current Spring exhibition, featuring new paintings and graphics of Boston artist Maya Gerr will continue through April 16 th.

Born and educated in Moscow, Russia, Maya Gerr received her formal degree in art as well as applied arts: costume design,painting on silk and leather, along with design of tapestry, which she found particulary interesting because she felt it allowed for the use of extra volume and texture. Maya Gerr spent a few years in Heidelberg, Germany- a town of picturesque hills and ruins of medieval castles, which inspired artists and poets of German Romanticism and provided great influence on her work too! There she was naturally attracted to landscapes in both watercolor and oil paint.And finally, when artist moved to the United States, her paintings became more abstract with hidden animal and plant motifs.

RUSSIAN PUPPET PROGRAM:

On Tuesday, April 5th, from 11:30AM-1PM in cooperation with Arts in Healthcare of New England, a Russian Puppet program will be performed at the Gallery.

Moscow Puppet theater Vagrant Booth (www.booth.ru) will perform the famous Russian puppet show "Petrushka". Puppeteers Alexander Gref and Elena Slonymskaya will run a workshop on reducing stress and anxiety with puppets and show the elements of the puppet theater&art making for children, child life therapists, and drama therapists.
