4 artists from our Gallery FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Alexander Vetrov, George Lapchinsky, Tatiana Yanovskaya-Sink and Vladimir Volosov, were selected for Uncle Vanya exhibit , in conjunction with performances of Anton Chekhov play at Apollinaire Theatre Company in Chelsea, MA, on Dec.29- Jan. 15 ( www.apollinairetheatre.com, 617 887 2336).

Uncle Vanya takes place in the late 1890's, and Theatre was seeking works of art in styles that might be present in a home of that era. Paintings and etchings by Russian artists are hung both in the Theatre gallery and in the performance spaces as part of the home, and viewed as the audience moves with an action from room to room.

The Gallery is located in the lobby of the Chelsea Theatre Works, and a reception will be held in the gallery following each performance of Uncle Vanya. Our Bostonian artists Tatiana Yanovskaya-Sink and Vladimir Volosov shall participate in receptions on 5-7 January.

The show will run from Dec.29 through Jan.15, Thu-Sun, with likely extension through January 22nd.

First the good news!
Gallery announces a sale of paintings, etchings, jewelry and Russian Chistmas souvenirs through December 24. There will be a 10% markdown on all items. All sales will be final.

Second the not so good news! We will regretfully be closing our 1977 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge gallery at the close of business on December 24.

FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery will transform into "pop up" and an internet gallery. Our website and our email addresses will remain the same, and our phone number is changing to (617) 714 3055. Most of the artists, including Alexander Vetrov and Stanislav Nikireyev, which we represented for the past 2 years will continue to exhibit with us in 2012 and beyond.

We are already planning short term exhibitions in various locations for 2012. We will participate in Russian exhibit at Newton Cultural Center, Cambridge Open Studios on May 12-13, 2012, Illumination Exhibit at MGH Cancer Center, and will arrange additional Open Houses . Once all the locations are finalized we will email everyone with the dates and times for our future exhibitions.

We have enjoyed meeting and talking with all of you, when you visited our Gallery, that became one of International Cultural Centers of Cambridge. During 1 1/2 years we had about 15 different exhibitions and Artist receptions. Many of you have become friends of our gallery and we will miss you. Therefore, we want to stay in contact with you. We hope we will see you again at our future exhibitions.

Sunday December 11: Holiday Open House and Sale of Russian Souvenirs

Join us in celebrating the life of Mary McCausland (Woronko), whose rediscovery of her family heritage created this remarkable collection of Russian Souvenirs. On Exhibit from December 1 through December 24.

Unique Russian souvenirs collected by Mary McCausland of Beverly, MA. over the 21 years after her one and only visit to Russia in 1987. She returned from her trip determined to reclaim the Russian roots she had inherited from her father, Aristarch Woronko, who immigrated from Grodno, Belarus, aboard the ship, S.S. Russia in 1909 to New York. Both Mary's parents died within 10 minutes of each other from the Flu Epidemic of 1918 and Mary and her sister were left orphaned by their deaths. In her later life, Mary collected a "Museum of Russian Artifacts" and her daughter, Alice Salter and her family of Manchester; the Salters, have donated this collection to the Russian American Cultural Center of Boston at Russia Wharf (Director, Margaret Dyer Coleman) to illustrate Mary's life and her goal to reclaim her lost Russian roots.

Mary collected examples of all the well known Russian arts and crafts and visitors will be able to see Khokhloma, many large and small Matryoshkas, some Icons, hand carved wooden bears and Santa Clauses, Russian dolls and toys, Holiday ornaments from Sergiev Posad; and lots more.

Open House Reception, hosted by Margaret Dyer Coleman (www.racc-boston.org, (978 526 7906) and Olesya & Jerry Koenig will take place on Sunday, December 11, from 1-5pm.

Also on display, beautiful Sumi-e paintings by Jan Zaremba, along with etchings and paintings by Russian artists and some unique and fine jewelry.

Dear friends and art lovers!

We are pleased to invite you to artist reception , for Master of Sumi-e Jan Zaremba "Joyful Life" exhibit, on Sunday, December 4th, at 3-7 PM.

Bostonian artist, Jan Zaremba is considered to be the foremost painter of Sumi-e ( pantings on sensitive absorbent rice paper, made with a delicate brush loaded with pure ink) in Europe and America. Brush, ink, and paper of such responsiveness are unknown in Western art.

Artist has exhibited in Germany, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Finland and all over USA. The greatest painter of the most aesthetic nation on earth, Dr. Hisashi Ohta, the Living National Tresure of Japan, confers his students to Zaremba. In 1982 Jan Zaremba becomes instructor of Sumi-e and teaches at the Japanese Cultural Center in Los Angeles for 18 years. In 1994 artist was also invited by Chinese painters to join the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association.

Jan Zaremba says: " I paint because what appears to us as the world wants to be known. And I am convinced that even in its exquisite horror world is profoundly beautiful. My paintings are exuberant songs of a complete world- symbols of forgotten paradise".

Brookline Artist Rimma Zaika-Veksler is a designer of handmade, one-of-a-kind contemporary jewelry and accessories.

Rimma's work has been featured on several ABC morning shows and has been carried by prestigious stores in New England, New York, Chicago, Florida and Los Angeles.

Boston Woman Magazine honored her as one of Boston's 100 most interesting women; her creations were published by some of the leading yarn companies as well as industry magazine, Woman's World and Fashion Knitting. As Ruth Khowais once wrote in the Patriot Ledger,"Fashion and Art are often interchangeable. This is especially true in the work of Rimma Zaika who creates artistically designed knittwear". Consistent with her orogonal line of all-natural knittwear, Rimma uses only natural fibers and stones (agates, shimmering pearls, sparkling amethysts and quartzes, sunny ambers, etc) in all of her jewelry creations.

THE ART OF ICON PAINTING With Marina Forbes

Russian Icon Maker, Teacher and Lecturer, Marina Forbes, will offer a hands-on studio workshop at the Gallery for students interested in learning how to create traditional Russian icons, one of the worlds's oldest and most respected forms of religious art.

The programm will include a detailed discussion and demonstration of traditional materials and methods of icon making. Then, under the direction of the instructor, students will create their own icons. Students will learn about board and painting surface preparation, gessoing, image rendering, pigments, brush strokes techniques, detailing, highlighting, gilding, Old Slavonic lettering, and varnishing. The ART OF ICON PAINTING workshop will be held at FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery on four Wednesdays: November 23 and 30, December 7 and 14, from 10:30 to 1:30 PM. No painting experience is required. Experienced artists will also feel very comfortable at Marina's workshop.

Artist says:

"Having a mathematical background , I treat the creative process as one which has an unlimited number of possibilities and options.I currently work in painting,graphics, ceramics and may in the future try a different medium. I move from canvas and paper to ceramics in order to realize my ideas in different forms and find new solutions. I negotiate between the fine lines of something regular and accidental.

Urban and countryside recollections such as: cracks on the pavement, crossings of railways, dust-colored grass, I transform into generalized and nearly abstract multi-layered structures and color spots. My ceramic plates and vases are transformed into autonomous artifacts and lose their utilitarian purpose.

My work sometimes can allude to real matters, and sometimes to just an abstract composition.I try to leave it open for the viewer's interpretation, which can be in the reality layer as well as the layer of abstract logical structures. I have been influenced by ancient (especially Egyptian art), J.M.W. Turner , and modern art by Piet Mondrian and Paul Klee".

Born and raised in Ukraine, Anatoly Dverin earned his degree from Kharkov Art Institute. After his arrival in the U S , Anatoly had to work very hard to be accepted in the artist community. Eventually he received numerous awards for his work as well as winning five "Best in Show " awards in national and international competitions. Listed in "Who is Who in American Art", 'Who is Who in the World" and just recently in a book "Best of America Oil Artists". Anatoly creates many of his paintings during his trips in New England, Canada, Europe, Russia and his native Ukraine.

Dverin's work stimulates the romance and elegance found in the international subjects which are his sorce of inspiration. Lush countryside, city street scenes, a quiet monastery and calm harbors are the familiar views we recall from our role as the casual stroller in our own travels. A sense of calm and complete understanding of nature permeates his beautiful impressionistic compositions.

Opening Reception on August 5 for "The World Around You" Juried show at YAA Maine gallery

York, Maine- "The world around you" is the theme for York Art Association's summer show.
The show opens on Thursday, Aug 4 and runs through Sunday, August 28th. There will be an Opening reception on Friday, Aug 5, at 5-7 PM. Olesya and Jerry Koenig, owners of "FROM RUSSIA WITH ART" gallery in Boston with international roots, will serve as judges for this juried show. Prizes will be awarded.

In conjunction with the show, York Art Assocoation will offer a demo and presentation by art historian from Moscow Anna Zhuravskaya on Thursday , Aug 25 at 7 PM. She will demo the process of etching, including dry point and acid techniques. During her presentation, Anna will also hightlight the artwork of two international, featured artists whose work employs these particular etching techniques- Irina Makoveeva and Alexander Vetrov ("Visions from my Rucksack" by A. Our new exhibit will feature oil painters , from St.Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts, Alexander Korman and Vladimir Tabanin, and famous etching artists, representing Moscow Surikov Fine Arts Institute and Moscow School of Graphics- Alexander Vetrov and Stanislav Nikireyev ( 1932-2007).

The Russian painting tradition is unique.In America, the Russian realist painters are often referred to as Impressionists. It is true that, the discoveries of French impressionists have influenced Russian painting in the late 19th century. However, while studying the effects of light on color through building color relationships, the Russians always adhered to highly accurate drawing.As a result, the Russian tradition combines the focus on color, but without destroying the form, as is often reffered to as a more painterly school.Detailes of painting are emphasized only to the extent as they contribute to the general composition.

Bostonian painter Alexander Kormans's love for Impressionism, combined with his rigorous training in Realism, created a unigue fusion, resulting in a romantic affair with en plein air painting. "For this show I am going to place 15 of my paintings from different periods of my artistic career.Although my artistic style may vary depending on en plein air situation, my goal has stayed unchanged through the years: to capture complex, momentary and coherent impressions of objects of art and surrounding nature".

His etchings are detailed pictures of native Russia, panoramas of difficult and beautiful compositions. He handles detailes in symphony with nature and the accuracy of what he sees. He uses color tactfully and in a competent, professional manner.

"People's Artist of Russia", Stanislav Nikireyev is one of the best etching artists to ever come from Russia. His black and white etchings capture all the seasons of nature and its creatures both from the past and from more current eras, producing many diverse and beautiful country scenes. They have incredible detail , and no color is necessary! A number of critics compare Nikireyev with Albrecht Duerer.

Stass Shpanin Exhibition: Age of Empires and Day of Russia in Boston May 1st

On May 1st, the gallery will open its doors to host Day of Russia in Boston a celebration that embraces not only Russian art, but culture as well. The purpose of this event is to encourage cultural exchanges and intersections between the distinct Russian and American communities that florish in Boston metropolitain area.

A central point of this celebration will be Stass Shpanin's Age of Empires. This exhibit will feature paintings on the Silver Age in Russia, complete with Stass' visual journalistic qualities, vivid colors, and bold strokes. His paintings help recreate time period in Russia that will never be fully revisited again. Stass himself is more then just a talented artist. In 2002 at the age of twelve, Stass was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest professional artist in the world. Born in Baku, Azerbaijan, USSR, in 1990, he has always been surrounded by discussions of international news, politics, history and science.

Stass Shpanin exhibit at the FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery is on view from April 16 through May 22nd, so make sure to see this established artist who gives light to the future of art and expression.

On May 1st, the Russian American Cultural Center of Boston (Director Margaret Coleman, www.raccboston.org) will sponsor a book sale of Russian books and English books about Russia.To add to the rich, cultural environment there will also be Russian snacks, chocolate, Russian samovar for tea, entertainment and live music. Current exhibition of Maya Gerr and Moscow puppet theater workshop at the Gallery on April 5 th

Our current Spring exhibition, featuring new paintings and graphics of Boston artist Maya Gerr will continue through April 16 th.

Born and educated in Moscow, Russia, Maya Gerr received her formal degree in art as well as applied arts: costume design,painting on silk and leather, along with design of tapestry, which she found particulary interesting because she felt it allowed for the use of extra volume and texture. Maya Gerr spent a few years in Heidelberg, Germany- a town of picturesque hills and ruins of medieval castles, which inspired artists and poets of German Romanticism and provided great influence on her work too! There she was naturally attracted to landscapes in both watercolor and oil paint.And finally, when artist moved to the United States, her paintings became more abstract with hidden animal and plant motifs.

RUSSIAN PUPPET PROGRAM:

On Tuesday, April 5th, from 11:30AM-1PM in cooperation with Arts in Healthcare of New England, a Russian Puppet program will be performed at the Gallery.

Moscow Puppet theater Vagrant Booth (www.booth.ru) will perform the famous Russian puppet show "Petrushka". Puppeteers Alexander Gref and Elena Slonymskaya will run a workshop on reducing stress and anxiety with puppets and show the elements of the puppet theater&art making for children, child life therapists, and drama therapists.

FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery presents: Puppets Show 'Petrushka" at Harvard Sq. on April 3

Our Gallery wants to introduce Moscow puppet theatre "Vagrant Booth" (www.booth.ru) for Cambridge April street festival on April 3, 2011,Sunday, at 5-7 PM.

The puppeteers Alexander Gref and Elena Slonymskaya will perform their "Petrushka" show at Brattle Sq , near the exit of Harvard T station, where the famour Russian puppeteer Igor Fokin Memorial Sculpture is located. Beloved Puppeteer from St. Petersburg, Igor Fokin (www.igorfokin.com), performing in Cambridge, established himself as one as one of the most popular acts in Boston area. Unfortunately he died suddenly of heart attack, and "Vagrant Booth" wants to dedicate they show to his memory.

They performances of traditional puppets show "Petrushka" include interactive elements: active inclusion of spectators in play action, joint playing with actors on national instruments (penny whistles, hand bells, raffles, etc.) It will be fun for both adults and children! The event is supported by Cambridge Arts Council.

FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery in Cambridge
is pleased to present an exhibition of en plein air artist ALEXANDER KORMAN, on 10 November-13 February 2011. The Opening Reception will take place here at 1977 Mass. Avenue on Sunday, 14 november at 3-6PM. The Closing Reception will be on Friday, February 11,at 5-8PM.

Originally from St.Petersburg, Russia, Alexander Korman is renowned artist, who is able to bring finest nuances of surrounding nature and human features alive on canvas.

Korman's love for Impressionism, combined with his rigorous training in Realism created a unique fusion, resulting in a romantic affair with en plein air painting. He earned a Master's Degree in Fine Arts at the prestigious St.Petersburg Academy of Art and Design. While developing his own unique style, he follows in the footsteps of the great Russian tradition of artist such as: Levitan, Korovin and Serov.

Over past decade, Alexander has lived in Boston and painted throughout New England. He is passionate about the beauty of this area and particulary with the seascapes of the ocean. Alexander hopes that his works inspire viewers to rejoice in the present.

FROM RUSSIA WITH ART Gallery has recently acquired a limited number of interesting Soviet vintage propaganda posters, covering a variety of subjects.

Soviet posters are relatively new area of collecting art. They were virtually unavailable in the West until Perestroika. With the decline of communism,there is more interest then ever in the images from this social experiment.

The Post-War period was marked by a return to social Realism, with Stalin once again becoming the focus of many posters. The Stalinist Period ( till 1953) revealed images of utopian harmony. Revolutionary fervor returned in the 60s, fanned by Cold War, Viet Nam and the Space Race, and this was reflected in more heroic and satirical images. As Perestroika (1984-present) came, protest had became a dominant and powerful poster theme.

GRAND OPENING RECEPTIONS ON 19-20 TH of AUGUST

On Thursday & Friday, August 19 & 20, the Grand Opening of our gallery took place. Katya Khromin, our contemporary mixed media artist, was here both nights and met and talked about her artwork, which was on display, with the over 120 people on Thursday and 80 visitors on Friday. Refreshments were served and live entertainment was provided with a violinist on Thursday and a pianist on Friday for everyone's entertainment. Our gallery is planning another "Opening" with refreshments and music in late September for steel sculpture artist, Masha Volkova. Additional openings for different artists are planned in October for our dry point etching artist, Irina Makoveeva and in November for artist, Alexander Gassel. Our gallery is planning to have an opening or an event every month, so keep an eye on this blogspot for future announcements and dates.

After attending SOWA Open Fridays in Boston and talking with a number of artists and experts familiar with the American art scene, we have made a decision to change the focus of our Gallery to be more contemporary. We are now working with contemporary artist Ekaterina Khromin, who has exhibits at the Windham Fine Arts Gallery, Windhan NY and James Cox Gallery, in Woodstock, NY.

Ekaterina Khromin received her M.F.A .from St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in 1980 and her Ph.D. from USSR Academy of Art in 1983. She worked as a professor in St Petersburg Academy of Fine arts,teaching portrait,cast,and figure drawing, as well as watercolor and graphic techniques. Ms. Khromin has participated in many international exhibitions since 1990.She was awarded a Gold medal for the poster design in Venice Biennale in 1990. The same year her family moved to the United States. In 1999 her works were selected from Society of Illustrators Annual Edition of American Illustration.

In Search of Perfection

Alexander Vetrov series of easel-painted etchings about Moscow area and North of Russia created during last 20 years are the most popular. Among them are: "Kostroma land","Vologda land","Returning to native roots", " Landmarks of Russian Architecture". Most of these series are done in techniques of colour etching in which A. Vetrov, as an artist, feels complete freedom and confidence. His works are detailed pictures-panoramas with complicated compositions.

The incredible attitude to details harmonizes with the breadth of the plot and the accuracy in the rendering of the chosen theme. The competent, professional attitude towards the colours in drawing is another peculiarity of his works. The color is used tactfully and does not break the integrity of general tone development of the work. The artist Vetrov is permanently in search of perfection, working much and hard on his works and he achieves the success.

The artist visited From Russia With Art Gallery in Cambridge, MA in April 2010. That was his first visit in the United States. He participated also in Opening Reception at Gallery 1295 at Childrens Hospital Boston. " The exhibition of artist Vetrov-is the strongest impression for the last period, because such a sharp purity- is really a rarity. An original metal sculpture by artist Masha Volkova. The artist works with steel and oxy acetylene welding process to create unique pieces with great attention to form, detail and texture. There is a certain kind magic in the balance between light and dark, the positive and the negative, airiness and solidity of form. Each sculpture is one of a kind. To prevent any rust or corrosion each piece is finished with a protective layer of wax and is easily dusted/cleaned using a wide soft bristle brush.

Russian Linocut Prints

Linocut prints are made using linoleum as the relief surface instead of the usual copper plate or wood. Making linocut prints dates back to the early 20th Century in Germany. In making a linocut print the artist makes a design on the surface of the linoleum and cuts away the surface not used for printing by using a knife or a chisel. Many well known artists have used this technique in print making such as; Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Jim Pollack.

“From Russia With Art” Gallery in Cambridge has over 30 different linocut prints, made by Russian artists from the Soviet times. They are mostly based on Russian Tales and heroes of these tales. Prints of The Bear, The Wolf, The Three Little Pigs, The Fox and Hen, Maria Tsarevna, Father Frost, along with Winnie The Pooh, The Little Prince, Thumbalina and others are shown in colored, bright linocut prints, which would make a great gift for any child or lover of Russian art.

These linocut prints were created by Russian artists, such as: Alexander Komarov, Ivan Krokhlov and others, mostly in the Moscow Region, between 1960 and into the 1980’s, at the Enterprise of Art Works of the Art Foundation of Russia. This enterprise, unfortunately was closed during the Perestroika period and very few of these original linocut prints are available now.

All of the linocut prints of Russian Tales in our gallery are naive, attractive and very human, somewhat opposite to modern digital technologies of mass produced prints. We have brought a very limited number of these original linocut prints from Moscow, Russia and they can be seen on our blogspot below. Alexander Vetrov

Alexander Vetrov is considered to be one the best colored needle etching artist in Russia. He was born in 1952, in what was then the Moscow Region and is now an area incorporated into the city of Moscow.

He acquired much of his techniques and skills while a student at the Moscow Art School and later at the Moscow Institute of Print Making. For his excellent work, he was awarded the special status of an “Honored Artist of Russia” by then Russian President, Vladimir Putin in 2002. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and shows in such diverse locations as; Moscow, Milan, Italy, Hamburg & Meldorf, Germany, Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago and Montreal, Canada. His works are detailed pictures, panoramas of difficult but beautiful compositions. He handles details in symphony with nature and the accuracy of what he sees. He uses color tactfully and in a competent, professional manner, which blends into his etchings, without taking away from the etching itself. Scenes of villages, churches in ruins, his home, his mother, in the different seasons of the year, are all captured by the artist discerning eye in his etchings. Irina Makoveeva

Irina Makoveeva is considered to be the best animal etching artist in Russia.

She was born in 1954, in the northern Russian City of Arkhangelsk and has lived in the Moscow Region since being a young girl. She studied art at the Moscow Pedagogical Institute, graduating in 1976 and started working as an artist in 1977. In 1981, she completed art courses and graduated from the Moscow House of Journalists. She has always had a fondness for animals and enjoys capturing their images in her etchings. For her prolific and excellent work, she was awarded the special status of an “Honored Artist of Russia” by then Russian President, Vladimir Putin, in 2005. She is also a member of the Russian Artists Union, since 1981, which counts among its members the best Russian artists. Her works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and shows in such diverse locations as; Moscow, Saint Petersburg, La Valetta, Malta, Varna, Bulgaria, Barcelona, Spain, Bonn, Germany, Paris, France, Milan, Italy, as well as over six shows or exhibitions in London. In 2005, at the 12th Annual International Awards and Exhibitions Show in Australia, Irina was awarded the top prize for the best miniature etching, Edipo, #310. In 2008, as a reward for her excellent work, she was given a stipend by the Russian Ministry of Culture. For the past five years, in conjunction with Moscow House of Graphics, Irina teaches young artists and organizes competitions, as well as cooperating with the Russian Culture TV channel. She also hosts a TV show, “Bibigon” on Russian Childrens TV chanel. In 2008, she received a medal from the Moscow Association of Hunters and Fishermen, for her etching series on “Hunting Dogs.” Her works on wild animals, many of the different breeds of dogs and cats, farm animals, birds and different types of insects are exceptional. Some of our favorites, in addition to “Edipo” are the “Hen & Chicks,” #339, Company of Bullfinches, #145, “A Trio of Bullfinches on A Branch,” #176, and “Five Bullfinches,” #356. Her etchings of cats and dogs show them as they are not usually shown. She also shows various wild animals in nature, from hunting prey, to nurturing their offspring, as well as sleeping and eating. In addition her works on insects are different and exceptionally excellent. Irina has permanent exhibitions at the Pushkin State Art Museum, the Darvin State Museum, Timiryazev State Biological Museum and in the Etchings and Art Department of the Russian State Library. The above are but a sampling of the numerous etchings by Irina Makoveeva on display.

Stanislav Nikireyev

Stanislav Nikireyev is considered to be one the best etching artist ever to come from Russia. He was born in 1932 in the Russian Tambov Region.

He acquired much of his techniques and skills while a student at the Penza Art School and then later at the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow. For his excellent work, he was awarded the special status of an “Honored Artist of Russia” from the Russian Academy of Arts. In 1990, he won the Russian Gold Medal for Fine Arts. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and shows in such diverse locations as; Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Prague, Berlin, London, Tokyo, Washington, New York & Chicago. His black & white etchings capture all the seasons of nature and its creatures both from the past and from more current eras, producing many diverse and beautiful country scenes. Some of his best known works are; “The Kremlin in Rostov the Great” made in 1993, “Fall of the Leaves,” made in 1984, “Two Trees,” made in 1999, “Old Magpie Nest,” made in 1983, “Dandelions,” made in 2004, “Spring Flooding,” made in 1975, “Kalina Tree Overlooking Village,” made in 1977, “Magpie,” made in 1981, “Aunt Frosia’s Yard” made in 1990, “Apple Tree in Blossom,” made in 1978, “The Hoarfrost” made in 1987, “Winter Landscape,” made in 1972, “Buds Quietness,” made in 1983 and “Before Sunrise,” made in 1994. His black and white landscape etchings have incredible detail and no color is necessary to see and feel what the artist felt when he produced these works. A number of critics, have compared his work to the works of famous artists from the Dutch School; such as: Rembrandt van Rijn, Pieter Brueghel, the elder and Albrecht Duerer.

Georgy Lapchinsky

Georgy Lapchinsky is a young and upcoming painter of landscapes, still life, portraits, persons and interiors.

He was born in 1968 in Moscow. From the time he was 12 years old, Georgy knew he wanted to be an artist. He attended and graduated from the V.I. Surikov High School in Moscow and earned a Gold Medal upon his graduation. From 1986 to 1994, he was a student at the Moscow Art Institute, which was under the USSR Academy of Arts. At the Moscow Art Institute, Georgy won Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals for his work. Georgy is not associated with the Union of Artists and since 1994, has worked as a free artist. He paints in the neo-realistic style, as a representative of the Moscow Art School with brightly colored paintings. Some of his best paintings are “At The Ballet Repetition,” #L1, made in 2009, “Interior With Piano,” #L2, also painted in 2009, “Winter,” #L3, painted in 2008, “Clean Pond,” #L4, painted in 2009, “Snow Road,” #L5, painted in 2008, “Girls & Swans At Patriarch Pond,” #L7, done in 2008, “September Snow Saint Basils Church,” made in 2009 and one of our favorites, “Spring On The Kremlin Grounds,” #L12, painted also in 2009. These are excellent examples of his painting skills, the ballet dancer, shown relaxing after a repetition, an interior of room with a grand piano and wonderful landscapes, particularly “Winter” and “Spring On The Kremlin Grounds.” This is only a sampling of the paintings to be displayed from Georgy Lapchinsky, starting in May 2010.
